Fortunately, the mighty Pokefan531 ( ) provides a much better solution via an external gbc-color shader ( ). This works after a fashion, but it tends to make everything too dark and has some unpleasant colour mangling side effects (e.g. The Gambatte core has a long standing ‘Color correction’ option which tries to improve the generated image. Transfer these games to a modern high quality display and a proliferation of over-saturated colours will assault your eyeballs. Game Boy Color games are designed to be viewed on a dim, low contrast LCD panel. (Of course, automatic selection may be overridden to force the use of either Game Boy Color or Super Game Boy palettes, or any specific palette that is desired) Colour Correction Improvements Palette specified by ‘Internal Palette’ core option. Better still, the automatic Game Boy colorisation setting has been updated to automagically select the ‘best’ (most colourful/appropriate) palette for each game, using an internal database with the following order of preference:ġ. You want pea soup green? You got it!Īll available palettes may be cycled via the usual ‘Internal Palette’ core option. To complete the set, three additional palettes have been created to simulate the display characteristics of the various Game Boy hardware revisions: DMG, Pocket and Light. Thanks to the assimilation of original work by (), we now also have access to the 32 default palettes of the Super Game Boy: The Gambatte core has long been able to colourise greyscale Game Boy games using the default built-in palettes of the Game Boy Color: Leaver Gambatte Updates Palette Additions The rest I just dive into config files.Written by J.D. I rarely touch settings in the GUI anymore outside of maybe changing inputs per core/game or for obvious one-off features. If you can't figure out how to do something using the Retroarch menu, 99% of it can be figured out by looking at it's folder structure and config files. In your config folder per core you'll see a config that will point to your overlay folder config file and in your overlay folder you'll have that config pointing to the artwork. When I setup my overlays I didn't even use Retroarch, I would just make all of my overlay configs per game/core (I use a different overlay or each arcade game to mimic the bezel) and just made new config files per game by copying the text from game A and pasting to game B and changing the artwork name to point to the right artwork and config per game. Save the overlay per core just like shaders.Īlso, you'll notice in the Config folder per core you have configs, there's also configs for overlays per core. If anybody has a good tutorial how to set this stuff up properly without messing up other stuff. I'm getting to the point where i think it is really easier to just have a RetroArch copy for each system (but then it is gonna be a PITA to keep all of them updated). How can i switch the Overlay OFF again just for cores that don't need one? then i tested some more borders from other sources and noticed that suddenly the Overlay is even active in the GameBoy Cores as well and are overlaying the border that was added by the shaders and now its all just messy. so this option is not per core? Or did i press the wrong button again? sigh. Then i noticed the NES border also showed up for my SNES core. Now i noticed that you can do just borders via Overlays, i REALLY like the animated NES border that comes with retro arch (are there any more animated ones for other Systems anywhere? animated as in you see the buttons of the gamepad being pressed in the border overlay)? I had my GameBoy shader setup the way i like, i know Shaders work on a per CORE basis, so i use different cores for GB / GBC / GBA. I keep having stupid problems setting up Overlays and / OR Shaders. i guess i should say PC version, Windows 10 first.
